Formed in 1975 by a group of adventurous minded individuals with a passion for four wheel driving, camping, exploration and camaraderie.
The Cairns Four Wheel Drive Club organises 4WD trips for their members and visitors around the beautiful city of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia.
Our motto is:
“Family, Fun, Friendship & Four Wheel Driving”
We do day trips, weekend trips and longer camping trips.
At times a group of our members venture out on the most iconic trip of the north: to the Tip of Cape York. We brave difficult tracks for those who like a bit of a challenge and some adventure and are willing to risk some scratches or damage on their trucks. But most trips are not that demanding and give ample room for the fun and friendship part of our club.
We are a mix of young and old, with many couples and some children in the mix. We have regular more social events, like our traditional Christmas Camp. We also make ourselves useful to the larger community. Every year we clean up the Mount Mulligan and Thornborough cemeteries. We regularly do some work at Brooklyn station in return for some access for our vehicles. And we help out with the Special Children Xmas event in Cairns.
On every first Wednesday of the month (except January), we have a general meeting. New visitors are welcomed (see “How to Join” if you want to come to a meeting), trip reports are given, new trips are discussed and planned and the Sergeant at Arms extorts fines on reasonable and unreasonable grounds.
The Cairns Four Wheel Drive Club is a member of the Queensland Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs Inc. which is a State Body enabling our views to be represented on topical issues as required. We are also a member of the National Council of 4WD Clubs.
This club follows National Council Code of Ethics and these ideals are practised on all Club trips and we support 4WD touring as a responsible and legitimate recreational activity.
